This seasonal craft only calls for some oranges, string and a bit of a time. It’s simple to make but you can be as imaginative as you like, adding different elements or fruits.
You’ll need:
• A bag of navel oranges (you can also use grapefruit, lemons and limes)
• Any additional decorations you’d like to use, cinnamon sticks, or rosemary, for example
• String – twine, ribbon, or plain string – whatever you have!
• Sewing needle with a large eye (or a skewer or toothpick if you don’t have a needle)
How to:
• Preheat the oven to around 100 degrees
• Slice your fruit evenly with a sharp knife (patting it dry will speed up the cooking time slightly)
• Arrange your fruit on lined baking sheets, making sure not to overlap
• Bake for around 2-3 hours, flipping the fruit halfway through. The time can vary, so keep an eye on the oven
• Allow to cool fully, so the fruit dries further
• Using your needle and twine, make a small hole at opposite sides of the fruit, and weave the thread in and out to create a garland
• You can also make tree decorations with a simple twine loop, or gift tags with ribbon, adding some decorative more decorative elements. The world is your orange, oops, we mean oyster!
