The Prosser family have lived in one of our homes for nine years and, during that time, have been able to access many wellbeing opportunities through Southern Housing and its charity, Fresh Visions, that have proven transformative for the family.
The journey began for Lydia, Elliot and their three children, when their eldest, George, joined Fresh Visions’ Motivate programme, an after-school youth club aimed at 10–16-year-olds. Being neurodiverse, George sometimes found crowded situations challenging, but the club provided exactly the environment he needed to thrive. George is seen as the heart of the club; he’s everyone’s friend and the person everyone goes to. His involvement illustrates how the right support can help young people flourish.
George’s sister, Daisy Rae, aged 12, also joined the club in 2022. Both George, now 14, and Daisy Rae have taken on the remarkable role of young carers for their father, who faces health challenges, so the club provides some welcome respite, as well as the opportunity to develop confidence.
But the impact these community projects have had on the family go beyond the youth club. In 2023, they participated in the Beyond Harm project, which included transformative experiences like equine therapy and woodland workshops – activities that helped strengthen their family bonds.
Lydia and Elliot are also now engaging with local counselling services, George actively contributes to the Youth Forum, helping shape future programs, and Daisie Rae has taken on a mentoring role, helping new members feel welcome and included.
Speaking of what Motivate means to the family, Lydia says: “I know my kids are safe and loved at club, and the sessions have become the highlight of George's week!
"What makes Motivate special is that they're there for the whole family, not just the children. They always find a way to support us, no matter what. We’re so blessed to have you in our lives".
The Prosser family story continues to grow, as youngest sibling, EJ, will be eligible to join this year.
