Brew can do it!
Isle of Wight resident, Peter, has taken on a new volunteer role at the local donkey sanctuary, helping in the café.
Assisting the staff, he clears the tables, rinses the dishes, and loads the dishwasher. When at work, his enthusiasm shines through and he’s been building relationships with the staff, even teaching them Makaton, (a communication tool with speech, signs, and symbols to enable people with disabilities to communicate).
Peter, who lives at St Helena, had been on the hunt for a new volunteer role, where he can learn and flourish since his last position came to an end.
So, when his keyworker, Jane, secured a placement for him at the donkey sanctuary, he was over the moon.
In the short space of time that Peter has been there, he has had great feedback from staff, who are delighted with how he has listened and learned to do the tasks required.
Jayne Faulkner, Senior Care & Support Worker said: “The staff at the sanctuary have really taken to Peter, they fully support him in his role and are really happy with his progress. He wears a big beaming smile and is always ready in his uniform earlier than needed on a Friday!”
