As part of our ongoing work with the Greener Broomgrove project, we’re helping to support wildlife and increase biodiversity on the Hastings estate.
On 10 October, we celebrated the delivery of an impressive bug hotel, kindly provided by contractor, Thakeham.
We marked the hotel opening with a community event on the estate. Joined by Hastings Museum and a face painter, it was a great opportunity for residents and the wider community to get together.
The Greener Broomgrove initiative was launched in response to residents’ requests to create opportunities, improve health and wellbeing and the environment around them. Listening to residents, it was clear there was an opportunity for both supporting their wellbeing and enhancing the green areas surrounding our estates.
Earlier this year, the initiative was awarded ‘Best Customer Impact’ at the National Housing Maintenance Forum (NHMF) Conference Awards. And since its launch in 2023, it’s achieved a great deal, including:
• Litter picks and skip days
• Delivered regular mindfulness sessions
• Hosted family fun days and community events
• Gifted books, seeds and plants
• Held bulb planting and seed bombing sessions
• Provided storytelling sessions
• Planted fruit trees
The project receives funding support from contractor, Pilon, and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, as part of the government’s Levelling up Fund. The government’s fund is aimed specifically at increasing community ‘pride of place’ for local people and increasing life chances of those living in deprived areas and is managed locally by Hastings Borough Council.
