Mandatory occurrence reporting for higher-risk buildings
If you live in a higher-risk building (HRB), defined as being 18m+ or seven storeys or more, the law requires us to provide a way for you to report any safety occurrences.
A safety occurrence is an incident involving, or a risk that could cause:
- the structural failure of the building
- the spread of fire or smoke in the building
It’s something which could cause serious harm to people in, or around, the building.
Soon you’ll spot our posters in the communal areas of HRBs, detailing how you can make a safety occurrence report.
If you’ve any questions in the meantime, please contact buildingsafety.risk@Southernhousing.org.uk
Importance of your fire safety instructions
If you live in a flat, we’ve recently sent you important fire safety instructions about your block’s evacuation plan. Please take a few minutes to read through them, so you know exactly what to do in an emergency.
Every block of flats follows either a ‘stay put’ or ‘full evacuation’ strategy, and your instructions will explain which one applies to you. Knowing this could make all the difference in keeping you, your family and your neighbours safe. If you've questions, please contact us.
Consulting residents on our building safety resident engagement strategy
Over the coming months, we’ll be engaging with residents of HRBs on our building safety resident engagement strategy.
This consultation will provide important information about safety matters in your home and ensuring you’re well-informed about key safety measures and responsibilities.
A key focus will be on how you can report safety occurrences and request critical safety information for your building.
