The planters were donated by contractor, the Bell Group, as part of the Giving Something Back scheme. They worked with residents to find out how many planters they wanted and where they should go, then attended the scheme to put them up and paint them, ready for filling with flowers and fresh produce.

Everyone was surprised by how big the planters were when they turned up, but they soon got to thinking about all the wonderful produce they’ll be able to grow… and eat!

Residents can’t wait to be able to take responsibility for their own vegetable plots, and work together to make the garden an enjoyable place to sit and unwind.

They’re also planning to use some of the planters to increase biodiversity and support the environment.

Weather permitting, residents are hoping the scheme will be able to open its doors at St Bernards in Bloom in the summer, invite guests into the garden, and sell some of the produce.

With the new planters in place, everyone is looking forward to welcoming some wildlife and colour to their garden as the days warm up!
