Our approach
The cost-of-living crisis and rocketing energy bills have impacted all our residents, so we have placed financial support and tenancy sustainment front and centre:
- Our financial inclusion team has responded with changes in the way we collect rent, while giving residents access to a range of tools that are designed to help with financial wellbeing.
- Through our financial wellness tool Nudge, we are working to put more people in control of their finances.
- FlexMyRent puts residents in control of their rent payments, allowing them to agree a rent schedule with us so that they can underpay when money is tight and overpay when there is more money in the bank.
- We've partnered with Togetherall to ensure residents are aware of the link between finances and mental health and have an online community where they can find support, resources, and connection 24/7.
- Residents need our support to keep energy bills low, so our reinvestment plans have seen a renewed focus on ensuring energy efficiency in homes. We are using our financial resources - in some cases matched with specific government funding – to target upgrades to plant rooms, radiators, doors, window and wall insulations, and installing LED lighting internally and externally.
We want all our residents to thrive, and our Social Impact Team offer support. In 2023/24 we helped:
- 10,000+ people on training and support casework activities
- 1,592 people with jobs & training outcomes
- Nearly 4,000 residents with acute Cost of Living money guidance help
- £8.3M positive impact on the finances of these households
- 1,654 vulnerable residents progressing more confident. less isolated
- Over 1,000 beneficiaries on our added value Fresh Visions Charity activities
- With high level customer satisfaction feedback.

Transforming lives
We believe all young people should have an equal chance in life.
The Fresh Visions Charity, supported by Southern Housing, helps children, young people and adults who face extreme disadvantage as a result of poverty, domestic abuse, lack of education and social exclusion.
The charity operates in some of the poorest neighbourhoods in the UK and its projects help people gain control of their lives by developing the confidence, motivation and skills to achieve their potential and build brighter futures.
Social value partnerships
We continue to work in our local communities alongside our partners, Local Authorities and other stakeholders to develop and provide the services that are most needed in these areas.
