If you're currently claiming tax credits only, you will be asked to apply for Universal Credit at some point between now and the end of 2024.
What is Universal Credit?
Universal Credit is a modern benefits system for people in work, looking for work or unable to work. It brings together six older benefits and helps make sure you're getting the financial support you are entitled to in one place.
How will I move to Universal Credit?
You will be sent a letter called a Universal Credit Migration Notice, which will tell you when to claim. It's important you act quickly and follow the instructions in the letter before the deadline, otherwise your benefits will stop.
Before you apply for Universal Credit, it's important your tax credits claim is up to date. So renew your tax credits, if you need to, and check all your information is correct. This will help make sure you receive the right amount of Universal Credit.
