Did you know? 14-20 October is Recycling Week and we’re encouraging residents and colleagues of Southern Housing to find your rubbish a new home.
Whether it’s a tin of beans turned into plant pots, or a crisp pot to a desk tidy, use the week to get your craft on and rescue your rubbish.
How we’re going green
We’re always striving to be as green as we can, and we continue to recycle in our offices and shared buildings.
Did you know, we’ve made a commitment to divert 89% of our office waste from landfill by 2026?
We also run annual recycling campaigns to help residents, key workers and students reduce their waste.
This is all part of our Sustainability Strategy targets, to create a waste reduction plan.
Your top tips
We’ve asked our residents to come to us with their top recycling tips – and you delivered!
Our Resident Sustainability champions have pulled together their best recycling recommendations for others to try for themselves:
- Buy loose fruit and veg, using your own reusable bags to reduce soft plastic waste
- Pass on your unwanted clothes to charities
- Recycle your electronic goods when buying a replacement – check with your local high street stores for specialised schemes
- Why not try composting your own food waste, add unused vegetables to a large bucket, cover and stir occasionally – add leaves and grass in small amounts and once turned into a manure mix add to pots, beds or gardens.
