Staff at Ryde Village Extra Care Scheme on the Isle of Wight have introduced an innovative new way for staff and residents to get to know one another, with what they call a ‘memory lane achievements fair.’
Driven by a desire to learn more about their residents’ pasts and to celebrate achievements, they hosted a career fair style event in the dining room. Residents were invited to book a stall and display their achievements; they also gave a short talk to their fellow residents on what they had chosen to display.
Speaking of the event, one of the residents who shared his artwork, said: “Everyone’s got a talent, it just takes something to bring it out!”
Samantha Cronnelly, Registered Manager at Ryde Village added: “We know a lot about who are residents are now, but sometimes people forget that they’ve had a past, with lots of interesting stories and hobbies.
“It was such a lovely afternoon, full of laughter and fascinating stories. And it was great to see the joy it brought the residents to relive their memories.”
The event was such a success, they’ll be running it every three months so others, and new residents, can get involved.
