It's LGBT+ History Month and a great chance to learn about LGBT+ history and experiences.
This month-long celebration and remembrance of LGBT+ history gives us the opportunity to recognise the lives and achievements of those who’ve contributed to the progression of LGBT+ movements around the world, and those who continue to do so.
Our dedicated staff network group for LGBT+ members and allies – PROUD, will be sharing an LGBT+ figure or group who inspires them each week across February.
“She’s an iconic Mexican figure who has inspired many people around the world through her life and art. Most recognise her for her famed mono-brow! Have you guessed who she is yet? Frida Kahlo, 1907 - 1954.
I love the fact she defied traditional gender roles and embraced her individuality. In her short but eventful 47 years of life, she would have several colourful affairs with men and women.
Through her art, she explored themes of feminism, identity, and sexuality, paving the way for future generations of artists and activists.
Her courage to be herself encourages me to break free from societal constraints and live authentically. Frida Kahlo is my LGBT+ inspiration! Showcasing fearlessness, self-expression, acceptance of imperfections, defiance of societal norms, cultural pride, and resilience make her my inspiring figure.
Her art and life story serve as a reminder to embrace our authentic selves, find beauty in our imperfections, and overcome adversity with strength and resilience.
