At last night's Unlock Net Zero Awards ceremony in Manchester, which recognises and champions progress in the UK's journey to decarbonisation, we were highly commended in the Biodiversity and Nature Award - Housing Association and Community Project category for our The Oare Community Orchard project in Faversham, Kent.
The project, benefitting the local community, supplies a sustainable water supply to 13 newly planted fruit trees through the newly installed 800-litre water tank. This supports, healthy growth and the thriving ecosystem of the orchard.
Collaboration between our Sustainability Team, Social Impact Team, and contractor Axis Europe worked together to make this project happen. Providing a rainwater harvesting system and shelter for residents, complete with a sloping roof and guttering. A welcoming space to use throughout the year.

Kara Tomes-Meek, Head of Sustainability, said: “We’re delighted to receive this commendation for our project at The Orchard. It not only recognises the impactful work our dedicated colleagues do for the environment and our residents, but also demonstrates what can be achieved through collaboration.
"This achievement compliments our newly published Biodiversity Pathway, setting out our goals to support a bespoke list of 30 flora and fauna species by 2030.”
