As we reflect back on HOMES 2023, we’d like to shine a spotlight on Graham Ellis, one of our residents, who was added to the 2023 Climate Change Champions Powerlist as a winner at the recent Unlock Net Zero Climate awards ceremony.
The award recognises individuals for their extraordinary contributions towards advancing sustainable practices, driving progress towards a net-zero future, and their active involvement in promoting a greener agenda for our communities and beyond.
Graham's four-decade commitment to sustainability, inspires us all having worked on subsistence farming in the Caribbean to co-founding a workers cooperative in Canada and establishing a renowned eco-village in Hawaii.
He now contributes as a Resident Representative for Southern Housing, while also engaging in local sustainability projects and community education in Rye.
Following the award he said, "I’m delighted to have received this award on behalf of Southern Housing, and our sustainability work doesn’t end with low emission houses and vehicles.
“We also need to shift to climate friendly healthy diets, reduce and compost our food waste and foster sustainable agriculture and gardening. However, we need to give priority to building resilient communities because, above and beyond these goals, it’s all about people coping with predicable climate change consequences by working together.”
Karin Stockerl, Executive Director of Assets and Sustainability said, “Congratulations to Graham for winning a place on the Unlock Net Zero Climate Champion Power List 2023. Your dedication to environmental advocacy is truly commendable, and your efforts are making a significant impact in the fight against climate change. Well done!"
