We’re looking at some easy ways to save water and help the environment as we move towards Water Saving Week (13-17 May).
Water is one of our most precious resources and with global warming on the rise we're under as much pressure as ever to preserve it.
Did you know that the average daily water usage in the UK is 142 litres per person?
And, if we don’t change our behaviours, it’s estimated we could see the south of England run out of water in as little as 25 years.
There are lots of things we can all do to make a positive difference. Here are some tips and devices that can help.
In the shower
Switching to a low flow shower head is a great way to improve your water consumption. These work by reducing the flow but not pressure and can decrease water usage by as much as 50%.
Using a shower timer is another great way to save water. These waterproof devices can be put in your shower and are the most cost and time efficient way of conserving water.
In the kitchen
Appliances are a part of every kitchen. When choosing the ones to go into your home, try and pick ones with low or eco temperature settings. A good way to do this is by understanding efficiency labels (energy and water) and making a choice from there. You can find out more about how efficiency labels work here.
Something as simple as using a washing up bowl can also help when washing up dishes or cleaning fruit and vegetables. Collecting the water instead of letting it run down the sink can reduce your wastage by up to 50%.
