We’re still evaluating the results of the project, but the feedback so far from residents has been extremely positive.
We’re confident the upgraded network will use less energy, reduce residents’ bills and they’ll be less breakdowns.
And we're targeting a 54% reduction in the building's greenhouse gas emissions.
Stephen English, Project Manager at Southern Housing, said: “Residents had been experiencing a number of failures with the original heat interface units such as a loss of heating, hot water or both.
They were very pleased to see the programme start in time for winter. By the start of 2024 the majority of properties had their new units installed and were feeling the benefit.”
We had to go into each home to install a new HIU and also made changes to the building management system.
Our contractor, Invicta Building Services Ltd, were happy to answer any in-person resident questions while working on site, while we attended weekly to address any other queries.
The Heat Network Efficiency Scheme (HNES) opened in February 2023 and forms an important part of the government’s support for heat networks. It aims to improve the performance of existing district and communal heat networks, with a focus on areas where residents are experiencing inadequate supplies.
