There are 13 young fruit trees planted at the Oare Community Orchard in Faversham, Kent. The orchard faced the challenge of sustaining the young trees due to a lack of a nearby water source.
We wanted to make a difference and tackle this problem. So, we teamed up with Axis Europe to provide a rainwater harvesting system, as well as a shelter for residents.
The newly implemented 800-litre water tank now provides a sustainable water supply for the fruit trees, ensuring their healthy growth and the thriving ecosystem of the orchard.
The wooden shelter, complete with a sloping roof and guttering, is also a welcoming space for residents to use throughout the year.
We’re currently working with Axis Europe and a volunteer group to add more planting and install a sustainable seating area.
The project, which will benefit the local community, has been named a finalist at the Unlock Net Zero Awards. The awards “recognise and champion progress on the journey to decarbonisation for the UK housing”.
The winner will be announced at a special ceremony to be held in Manchester on 26 June 2024.
